No RV weekend getaway or camping trip is complete without a good book.
Once you’ve hiked all the trails and eaten all the s’mores, you’ll want to wind down with a great read – and we’re here to help!
Starting this season, we’ll be dropping Recommended Reading posts about books that we couldn’t put down until they were finished.
So let’s get started. The book that inspired me to start sharing Recommended Reading is called Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens.
Where the Crawdads Sing
by Delia Ownens
Fiction, 368 pages
When you start this novel, you think it’s about dysfunctional families.
As you read on, you think it’s about being in harmony with and having a deep love for nature.
But read even further, and you are wrapped up in a love story and a murder mystery!
Where the Crawdads Sing is all of that- written in a way that makes you crave every detail the author, Delia Owens, pours out about the characters, their surroundings, and ultimately, their decisions.
The book is set in rural North Carolina in the 1950s, where you follow the life of Kya as she navigates devastating family loss, amazing nature discoveries, and caring human connections- as well as some not-so-caring ones.
By the middle of this book, I found myself gasping at the end of every chapter in either shock or anticipation- it was that good. Currently on Amazon, 94% of customers gave it a four- or five-star review, so I’m not alone in calling it a page-turner.
While Delia Owens has co-authored three non-fiction books, this is her first fiction novel. It was published in 2018, is a New York Times Bestseller, and has sold over 4 million copies!
Grab a copy of Where the Crawdads Sing before your next RV weekend getaway or camping trip, and stay tuned for another new Recommended Reading soon!
